On Wednesday, June 2nd, Junior Girl Scout Troop 75133 completed their Bronze Award by donating Pet Care Bags along with much needed supplies to NAWS in Mokena. At the end of their Brownie year (May 2020), the scouts voted on what project they wanted to do to earn their Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout (4th & 5th grade) can achieve. Since pets are so very important to a lot of our scouts, they decided this was the best project for them. The girls collected much needed items like newspapers, blankets, towels, sheets, laundry detergent, wipes, and garbage bags. The troop was able to purchase treats, treat containers, toys, and blankets to put into the Pet Care bags which the scouts designed and voted on the cover to each bag. The troop made, packed, and donated 12 large cat bags, 12 large dog bags, 12 small cat bags, and 12 small dog bags. These bags will go to individuals that adopt a cat or dog from NAWS in the upcoming months. The troop was fortunate to have other troops within our Girl Scout Service Unit donate some of the items for the bags. According to troop leader Jennifer Paape, "The girls were so excited to deliver the items to NAWS and get to see some of the pets up for adoption in person. We (troop leaders) are so very proud of all the Scouts for their hard work that made this project a success!"
