Local Residents Run for Township Offices

The New Lenox Township Democrats have a slate of six candidates running in the April 6 election.

(Patricia Goldschmidt, New Lenox resident)

The April 6 municipal election offers New Lenox voters a chance to elect a more balanced Board of Trustees and introduces David Maine as a candidate for Township Highway Commissioner and Sheila Corrigan for the position of Township Collector. David has worked in construction all of his life and is well qualified to fulfill the Highway Commissioner position. Sheila Corrigan is a retired nurse and very interested in improving local government.

The four candidates for Township Trustee positions are civic minded people who want to contribute their ideas to the government of our area at the township level. They are: Laura Kinnan, a lifelong resident of New Lenox and teacher in our area; Alex Vancina, a librarian, 20 year resident of our area and member of the New Lenox Library Board; Michelle Fadeley who works in marketing and has a strong interest in good government; and Michelle Monbrod, currently serving on the New Lenox Library Board, 16 year resident of our area and works as a Project Administrator/Coordinator/Office Manager.

These candidates are interested in improving awareness within the community of the services the Township currently provides by improving the website and exploring other means of communicating with the public and improving township services. The candidates are also hoping to connect local veterans with the services in our area available to them.

Contrary to a recent Republican campaign advertisement, these Democratic candidate’s campaigns have been financed by local labor unions representing New Lenox Township residents in the trades and by interested local democrats. None of the candidates have pledged to spend the $1,100,00 reserves. Several inquired about the large amount and its purpose.
