Mom Can't Believe Hit-And-Run Driver Knocked Down Her Son

The 15-year-old "flipped over the hood" of the car, his mother said, and the driver just left him in the crosswalk.

NEW LENOX, IL — A mother has issued a public plea for the driver who struck her pedestrian son to own up.

Jamie Kruizenga's son Tyler, 15, was in the crosswalk near Route 30 and Schoolhouse Road just after 11 a.m. Saturday, when he was hit by a car headed eastbound on Route 30. The impact sent him flying across the hood, she said, and the person behind the wheel drove off.

"SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT STOPPING!!!" Kruizenga wrote on social media. "He flipped over the hood and you still left?!"

The sophomore at Lincoln-Way Central was in the crosswalk and almost across the street when the signal switched to "don't walk." The traffic light turned green, and the driver surged forward, hitting the teen, his mother described.

Tyler was checked by paramedics on scene, and other than a sore leg, was uninjured, Kruizenga said.

"She should have stopped, and if she would have, I wouldn't be so angry," she told Patch. "I'm still shocked a grown woman would keep going after hitting a kid."

Witnesses described the driver as a white woman with short hair in her mid 40s, driving a small silver/gray car. She had a male passenger.

Kruizenga filed a police report, and police said they will review surveillance footage from nearby for additional details.

"She should be ashamed of herself that she could hit a child and leave the scene," Kruizenga said. "She should have stopped to be sure he was OK. Accidents do happen, but her complete disregard to his well-being is unacceptable."
