New Lenox 5-Year-Old Leukemia Survivor, Family Treated to Night with Chicago Bulls
The Dobush family had a night they won't forget Wednesday.
FIve-year-old Nathan Dobush knows the view from inside a hospital all too well.
The plucky New Lenox boy has been battling leukemia since July and just finished his final chemotherapy treatment last week. To celebrate, the Dobush family was treated to a different view—the Chicago Bulls, right out on the court.
The Bulls recognized Nathan’s “fighting spirit against acute lymphoblastic leukemia,” and invited him to spend time on the court before a game against the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night.

Nathan was joined by his parents Laura and Rob, and 8-year-old sister Peyton. Six-month-old Jacob had to sit out from the fun.
“We got to go right down to the court, watch them shoot and practice,” Laura Dobush said.

He was nervous to be so close to the players, but said his favorite part was seeing, “Benny the Bull riding a bicycle.” He didn’t seem to recall his dad shooting (and missing) a half-court shot, but Laura remembered.
The family was then escorted to their seats three rows off the court. Nathan said he loved that the score was tied 44-44 when the family left at halftime.
Nathan has been treated by pediatric hematologist and encologist Dr. Jason Canner, at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.
Laura enjoyed the time together—away from medications, treatments—and seeing the huge smile on Nathan’s face.
“We haven’t been able to do very much together, outside of medications, treatments, the hospital,” she said. “It was so nice to be out together having fun, having a good time.”
