New Lenox Cub Scout Pack 94 Plans Recruitment Events

The pack will hold a fishing club event from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Rock Run Rookery Preserve in Joliet.

NEW LENOX, IL — Recruitment for New Lenox Cub Scout Pack 94, like other area scouting packs, has been a challenge for the past year. The pack said it currently has 27 scouts, down from over 70 in previous years.

"It's been a tough year to recruit," James Traut, assistant den leader for the pack, told Patch. Normally, the pack could hold information or recruiting events at school registration nights, but it hasn't been able to do so this past year.

Now that restrictions have loosened, the pack is planning two recruitment events in the upcoming weeks.

The pack will also hold a hiking club event on May 1 at Hickory Creek Preserve-La Porte Road access in Mokena. The pack will meet at 10 a.m., rain or shine, to hike 2 and a half to 4 miles.

Throughout the year, the Cub Scouts participate in the rocket launch, rain gutter regatta, a fundraiser hike-a-thon, popcorn and chocolate sales, a spaghetti dinner and the pinewood derby.
