New Lenox Recognizes Snow Angel Program

The Snow Angels help shovel the homes of seniors, residents with disabilities and single parents.

NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Village Board honored a group of area residents, the Snow Angels, for their service to the community at Monday's board meeting. Mayor Tim Baldermann said the Snow Angels help shovel the homes of seniors, residents with disabilities and single parents.

This is the fourth year of the Snow Angel program, which services New Lenox, Manhattan and a small corner of Mokena, Baldermann said.

40 Snow Angels were assigned to 120 homes this past season, Baldermann said.

"Each Angel's job is to shovel the driveways and sidewalks of their assigned homes whenever it snows 2 inches or more," Baldermann said.

The Snow Angels receive community service hours, a gift card and a hoodie for participating in the program. The program is coordinated by Kim O'Neill, and Kevin Molloy from State Farm Insurance sponsors the program.

"This is such a great community, not because of what we're doing up here, but because of the residents, the business owners, the people who are willing to put themselves out there and give to others, especially when times are a little difficult," Baldermann said.
