New Lenox Rescinds Mask Ordinance After New CDC Guidance

The village will not require proof of vaccination, and private businesses still have the right to refuse service to those not wearing masks.

NEW LENOX, IL — The Village of New Lenox has rescinded its mask ordinance after new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eases mask-wearing for fully vaccinated people outdoors and in most indoor settings.

The village shared a message from Mayor Tim Baldermann on its Facebook page, sharing the news of the rescinded ordinance, which is effective immediately.

Baldermann wrote that the village will not require proof of vaccination, and that private businesses still have the right to refuse service to anyone not wearing a mask, if that's their policy.

"Anyone not wearing a mask and refusing to leave an establishment that requires masks, can be cited for trespassing," Baldermann wrote.

According to CDC guidance, fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance, except where required by federal, state, local or tribal laws and regulations, including local business or workplace guidance. Fully vaccinated people also don't have to get tested following a known exposure to the coronavirus, unless they are residents or employees of a detention facility or homeless shelter.
