NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox resident and St. Laurence High School student Emma Lotus was recently inducted into the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at the school. According to the school, Lotus was among 20 inductees that were selected from a pool of 60 candidates for the program’s inaugural class.
Located in Burbank, St. Laurence is one of just three Catholic International Baccalaureate World Schools in Illinois, and is the only one in the Chicago southland area, the school said in a release. The school achieved this status after an extensive candidacy phase that lasted nearly two years and involved several evaluations of the school’s curriculum, teachers, facilities and more.
The diploma program provides many benefits for those enrolled, the school said. Students are choosing the most rigorous academic path available, and may receive credit or advanced standing by scoring well in International Baccalaureate exams.
