Pedestrian Struck By Car At Joliet Highway and Schoolhouse Road

Witness told Patch man was crossing Joliet Highway with his dog when he was struck.

NEW LENOX, IL — A pedestrian was struck by a car Monday night near Joliet Highway and Schoolhouse Road in New Lenox.

The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. A witness said a female driver was heading north on Schoolhouse Road and turning west onto Joliet Highway when she struck a male pedestrian, who was seen walking his dog at the time. The dog bolted from the scene, but was later found safe by police and volunteers.

Police and paramedics were on scene as of 8:20 p.m. It's unclear what caused the accident. The witness told Patch he was not certain if the man was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The man's condition is not currently known. The driver remained on scene after police arrived. She was uninjured and refused treatment at the scene. Neither the victim nor driver's name and age were known as of 8:43 p.m.
