Providence Student Looks — and Plays — Like Kyle Schwarber

The junior at Providence High School has that boyish charm, dimpled cheeks, and round face—and he even plays like him.

NEW LENOX, IL — A local high school student has some of his classmates doing a double-take.

Nick Jones, a junior at Providence Catholic High School, bears a strong resemblance to Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber. A football and baseball player, Jones has even been nicknamed "Schwarbs" at batting practice.

It started soon after Schwarber joined the Cubs, his mom Treva Jones told Patch.

"Someone suggested he’d make a great Kyle for Halloween," she said. "He has a jersey and everything, and that’s what he dressed as."

Physical appearance isn't the only thing Jones shares with Schwarber. Jones—who also goes by “Coal City” because of his hometown and another in his class who bears his same moniker—also plays catcher, one of Schwarber's listed positions. But Schwarber has been unable to field that position or his other of outfield during the World Series. Team doctors have only cleared him to hit during the series. He'll bat second in the order in Tuesday night's game.

"People have also said his swing is like his, too," Jones said. "We hope so. We hope Nick is doing as well as Schwarber when he’s that age."

Nick's "beard" is fake, as facial hair is prohibited at Providence. He dressed as Schwarber again this Halloween, and due to the elder Schwarber's longer facial hair, he had to make a run for a little extra fuzz.

"It's fun when people compare me to Kyle," Nick said. "I have been getting a lot of attention lately because of it, especially with his popularity and success lately."

Schwarber is also known for his personality—same goes for her son, Jones said.

"He’ll go with the flow," Jones said. "But on the field, and in the classroom even, he’s very committed."

Nick said college coaches have noticed similarities in their playing ability.

"We are both short, strong catchers who have really good power at the plate," he said, of what college coaches have told him.

"Many coaches find it very funny that we we also look alike. ... I have drawn a lot of college interest and it is a goal of mine to play D1 baseball in college."
