Original Rainbow Cone fans scattered across the Southland will have to make the trip back to Beverly to feed their craving.
The two businesses have cut ties, and Rainbow Cone will no longer be on the menu at The Creamery.
“It’s with deep regret that we must announce that Rainbow Cone and the Creamery have agreed to end their licensing agreement,” Rainbow Cone announced on its website. “We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience, and we hope customers will be able to make the journey to 92nd and South Western for the one and only Original Rainbow Cone.”

It’s unclear why the two squashed the agreement, but Creamery owner William McEnery in February announced that the chain will be auctioned off in April. Buyers can bid on one or multiple stores, and McEnery said he’s not currently eyeing a particular price.
McEnery bought the chain of seasonal sweets shops from his father in 2011, for more than $3 million. It’s estimated the best-performing locations generate approximately $600,000 in revenue each year.

The auction will take place April 7 at 7 p.m., at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago-Alsip. Each offering will include all of the stores’ assets and equipment, as well as the land upon which each location sits.
Rainbow Cone will continue its tradition of the five-tiered sweet treat at its original location, 9233 S. Western Ave. They are now open for the summer season, Wednesdays through Sundays noon through 7:30 p.m.
