Sinkhole In New Lenox Could Take Weeks To Fix
After heavy rain this weekend, a sinkhole has been reported on Gougar Road in New Lenox.
NEW LENOX, IL — After heavy rain and flooding over the weekend in New Lenox, a sinkhole has been reported on Gougar Road. Gougar Road will be closed from Ellis south to Illinois Highway due to infrastructure issues.
The Will County Division of Transportation said there was a large sinkhole on the east side of the road at a cross culvert north of Spencer Road. The roadway pavement has been collapsing progressively each day, and is now almost the entire width of the road.
New Lenox received over 5 inches of rain this past weekend, and many residents reported flooding in their homes and on their streets.

According to the county, they have a contractor to replace the failing pipe, but they pipe material won't come in for another two weeks.
The division said it is working with the contractor to find alternate materials that are more readily available.

"Until the repairs are completed, the roadway is impassable to all traffic," the division said.
The detour route is Laraway Road to Route 52 to Briggs Street to Route 30 and back to Gougar Road.
