12 Arrested, Hundreds Ticketed By Oak Lawn Police During July 4 Effort
Oak Lawn police officers handed out more than 370 tickets over the holiday while cracking down on impaired driving and seatbelt violations.
OAK LAWN, IL ? Twelve people were arrested and nearly 380 more received citations during the Oak Lawn Police Department?s recent July 4 crackdown on drunk driving, police officials announced on Wednesday.
In addition to making the 12 arrests, police officials said that 296 drivers were given tickets for not wearing a seat belt while 78 others received other citations during the holiday weekend campaigns which focused on impaired drivers and those not buckling up.
The Oak Lawn Police Department was one of more than 200 law enforcement agencies across the state that enforced impaired driving and seatbelt laws over the Independence Day weekend. The effort included high-visibility traffic enforcement and other campaigns that were sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The campaign was funded with federal transportation dollars, the department said.
