Accused Public Fondler Daniel Vorberg Could Face a Jury Early Next Year

Daniel Vorberg, of Oak Lawn, was accused of exposing himself near a school in Mount Greenwood.

The 31-year-old man accused of exposing himself near a school in Mount Greenwood earlier this spring might have his case heard by a jury in February 2014.

Appearing in court on Friday, Nov. 22, Daniel Vorberg, of the 5000 block of 101st Street in Oak Lawn, faced Judge William J. Kunkle for a status hearing on his felony indecent exposure charge. His attorney Hal Garfinkel appeared eager to set a date for a jury trial.

On April 30 Vorberg was accused of exposing his penis while sitting in a car parked in the 11200 block of S. Spaulding Ave. in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood, just down the block from Cassell Elementary School, police said at the time. The incident was witnessed by a nearby parent and a picture of his license plate was taken, leading to his arrest.

Even though discovery has not yet been completed in the case, Vorberg's attorney pushed prosecutors and the judge to set a date for when he might appear before a jury. The scheduled date for trial is Feb. 18.

Another status hearing was also scheduled for Dec. 24 at which time an update in the discovery process will be given.

Vorberg has a long history of criminal charges. Beginning in 2001, he accumulated charges of retail theft, disorderly conduct, battery, criminal damage to property, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and contributing to the delinquency of a child, all of which were dismissed.

Vorberg was on court supervision from a 2011 battery and retail theft incident at a Tinley Park Menards when he was arrested for public indecency.

Vorberg, who appeared in court wearing a tan prision-issued jumpsuit with his mother looking on, is currently being held in Cook County Jail after quickly violating home monitoring after his arrest.

The case has received a large amount of attention from residents in Oak Lawn and Mount Greenwood. His first court appearance was attended by dozens of community members and elected officials
