D218 Board honors Shepard cheerleaders

Astros qualified for state for 23rd time in last 25 years

The District 218 Board of Education last week honored coach Nicole Staehlin and the varsity cheerleaders for their tremendous season in competition.

The Astros won first place in the Co-Ed Division at the Sandburg Invitational and second place at the South Suburban Conference meet.

The team then took second at the IHSA Sectional at Niles West to qualify for the state finals for the seventh straight season, and 23rd time in the past 25 years.

Finally, judges awarded the Shepard cheerleaders the highest raw score in program history at the state finals.
