Family Waterproofing Solutions is a Chicago-based basement waterproofing company that specializes in repairing leaking foundations. When homeowners experience water in their basements, their team has the knowledge to identify the problem and repair it — permanently. According to owners Kenneth and Maria Kirchner, no job is too small when it comes to water in or around your home's foundation.
While their team had to adapt and adjust during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety of their customers and their family, Family Waterproofing Solutions is still proudly serving the Illinois and Indiana communities today.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: Family Waterproofing Solutions has been serving the Southside and surrounding Chicagoland communities since 2013. Our humble beginning started in Orland Park, but growth moved us into a larger space in Evergreen Park. Ironically, Evergreen Park is where we grew up.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: We first became attracted to basement waterproofing by becoming first time homebuyers. We experienced seepage within our first few days of purchase. It was very frustrating because we budgeted for a house with a finished basement and then had to tear it apart. However, the experience turned into a job opportunity and ultimately a career.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: Big Company Experience, Affordable Prices. Most waterproofers rarely get the full experience of working almost every job title before they become an owner. We fortunately have that on our resume and that experience has paid off!
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: The biggest challenge by far was having to navigate through the challenges of COVID-19. Not only were customers apprehensive about having people in their homes, we also had to be conscious of the safety of all the members of Family Waterproofing Solutions. We are very fortunate that we have a great team, they have risen to the challenge and exceeded all expectations.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: Honestly, the most satisfying part of the job is the satisfaction of the customer. Not to sound cheesy about it, but this is how we check our scorecard. After a rain, we can actually see the recommendations on social media. It is an awesome feeling to see our customers praising our honesty, integrity and pricing. That is everything we strive for!
Patch: How would you say your business distinguishes itself from the others?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: We definitely believe we distinguish ourselves from our competitors a few different ways. However, one area above all else is our sales representatives. We believe in a full education that includes a rigorous hands-on training program. Our sales representatives must start the program as installers. We believe in order to become a trusted expert in your field, you must be an expert in your entire field.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: Hard work pays off.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: We have recently added gutter and downspout cleaning within our Water Management services. Most basement seepage issues are directly related to your roof water. It is a simple cost effective service that can save you a lot in the long run.
Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?
Kenneth and Maria Kirchner: Family Waterproofing Solutions will be hosting a concrete raising seminar or seminars (depending on COVID restrictions), that will educate and allow for some hands-on raising. We are not only looking for new potential clients, we are also hoping to attract new members to our team. Details will go through social media and of course our website. Date and time will be determined once the weather breaks. We are aiming for July!
