First-Grader Struck And Killed By Car In Oak Lawn: Police

The 6-year-old boy was a student at Hometown Elementary School, D123 superintendent said.

OAK LAWN, IL — A first-grader was struck and killed by a car in Oak Lawn on Monday. The boy was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 6-year-old Tamer Jaghama.

The accident happened around noon Nov. 9 in the 9300 block of South Kolmar Avenue, according to news reports. The boy was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced. The medical examiner lists the boy’s residence on the same block.

Tamer was a first-grader at Hometown Elementary School, Dist. 123 Superintendent Dr. Paul Enderle confirmed. Parents were informed of the tragedy in an email from the school district:

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, we share the news of the death of a 1st grade student from Hometown Elementary School. The student was pronounced dead after being struck by a vehicle in the 9300 block of South Kolmar Avenue. We received confirmation late this afternoon from the child's family regarding this tragic incident.

D123 social workers and guidance staff are standing by to assist parents who think their students need help processing the tragedy, by calling the school district at 708-423-0150.

Oak Lawn police are investigating.
