Hometown Cop Fatally Struck By Car Investigating Accident: Police

HOMETOWN, IL — A Hometown police officer died early Saturday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a car accident. James Kouski, 58, was a 34-year veteran of the Hometown Police Department.

Kouski was investigating a DUI crash around 3 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Pulaski Road. Police said the officer was struck by a white sedan. Kouski was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The police department sent an emergency text alert to residents around 5 a.m. stating that traffic in both directions on Pulaski Road between 87th and 91st Streets was stopped. Charges are expected against the 0ther driver.

Residents and police saluted the fallen office in a memorial procession later in the afternoon.

Hometown police are being assisted in investigation by Illinois State People, Cook County Sheriff's Police, Oak Lawn and Evergreen police.
