Hot Air and Heavy Rain This Weekend: Forecast

Prepare yourselves for a double-dose of possible yuckiness. Plus, an hour-by-hour heat index for Saturday.

Within the last hour, the temperature reached 90 degrees at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. And there are more 90s to come this weekend. Today marks the sixth 90-degree day of the year, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, we could see isolated thunderstorms with brief but heavy downpours and cloud-to-ground lightning. (Watch out for those house fires.)

On Saturday, the temperature is expected to reach 90 with a heat index of 95. We’ve got a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., mostly expected near the lakefront.

On Sunday, the temperatures climb to 94 and the heat index to 98. Winds of 15 mph predicted.

And Monday, we could get another dose of thunderstorms, but the temperature is not expected to climb over 90. The rest of the week could be stormy, too. But we’ll deal with that later.
