Landmark season for Richards XC

Entire boys team qualified for sectionals!

Richards High School asked coaches to share the best moments, highlights, achievements, and anything else that made them feel proud of their teams. Here's coach Bob Peck writing about the cross country program.

Our boys and girls cross country teams were fortunate to have the IHSA extend their post-season to include both a Regional meet and a Sectional meet. While they lost the conference championship to Eisenhower by one point, our runners answered the bell at the Regional meet and ran well.

So well, in fact, that the entire boys team (David Olmos, Luke Vana, Jack Weiland, Louie Leahey, Owen Forberg, Josh Smith, and Sebastian Gasinski ) and Natalia Wrobel and Jessica Olague from the girls team qualified for the Peoria-Notre Dame Sectional at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

Natalia and Jessica ran respectable races, both finishing in the top two-thirds of the field. Led by David Olmos (who finished 11th overall), the boys team finished in a tie for 6th place in a loaded race. The boys team would have advanced for the second year in a row to the state championship downstate at Detweiler Park.
