OLFD Will Conduct Training Exercises On Empty House

House at 9522 S. 53rd Ave. will be used for training exercises during November. Residents may see smoke and firefighters.

OAK LAWN, IL — For the next month, the Oak Lawn Fire Department will be conducting training exercises at a house donated to the village previously leased as two separate apartments. Residents may see non-toxic theatrical smoke and firefighters training around the house, so is you see someone freaking out on social media, let them know it's only a drill.

Oak Lawn firefighters will be conducting training exercises, as well as other area fire departments, at 9522 S. 53rd Ave. Throughout the month, the fire department will be training both inside and outside the house until demolition is set to begin late November.

Just before the demolition, the fire department conduct some outside and roof structural training by opening some outside holes.

“There will be NO Live Fire at this location” Chief Zack Riddle said, of the Oak Lawn Fire Department. “We will be using theater smoke only, which is non-toxic and generated from a liquid introduced into an electric smoke machine.”
