Traffic Stop Nets Pot, Pills, Unstamped Cigarettes And $129K Cash

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A baggie of marijuana spotted during a traffic stop yielded more than seven pounds of cannabis, hundreds of pills and the largest seizure of cash in the history of the Chicago Ridge Police Department, according to a news release.

Mohammad T. Akubakr, 28, of Worth, is facing multiple felony counts of possession, delivery and of cannabis and controlled substances, as well as possession and transportation of unstamped cigarettes.

On Monday evening, Chicago Ridge police officers saw a vehicle cross over the center line along 111th Street three timeless, police said. Officers curbed the vehicle at 111th Street and Menard Avenue.

While talking to the driver, later identified as Abubakr, officers said they noticed a baggie of cannabis on the front passenger seat. The officers said Abubakr made a statement confirming it was cannabis. Abubakr was also found to be driving on a suspended license, according to police.
Officers searched the vehicle, where they found various narcotics, 3,620 grams of cannabis, and $129,000, the largest cash seizure in the history of the Chicago Ridge Police Department, police said.

  • Possession with the intent to deliver Promethazine with Codeine (170g)
  • Possession and transportation of unstamped cigarettes (331 packs)

Abubakr appeared Wednesday for a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
