U.S. Rep. Marie Newman (IL-03) and U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (IL-06) will join Adam Jentleson, author of “Kill Switch: The Rise of the Modern Senate” in a live, virtual town hall to talk about the history of the filibuster and the critical need for why it must be eliminated. The event will be livestreamed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5.

This week's town hall event comes after nearly 100 House Democrats sent a letter urging Senate Democrats to end the filibuster so that Congress can deliver on the promises made to the voters who gave Democrats control of the U.S. House, Senate, and Presidency.

Led by Rep. Casten, the letter calls for the Senate to put the needs of the American people over archaic Senate procedure and move forward with legislation to protect voting rights, establish a $15 minimum wage, prevent gun violence, reform our country’s immigration system, achieve climate and environmental justice, protect workers, and more.
