UPS Employee Slain In Apparent Homicide-Suicide: Police

A female employee at the Hodgkins UPS facility was found shot to death in the parking lot near a man who also died, police said.

HODGKINS, IL — A UPS employee was slain Monday afternoon in what Hodgkins police are calling a possible murder-suicide.

Around 12:50 p.m., police responded to a shots-fired call in the employee parking at the Hodgkins UPS facility, 1 UPS Way. A man and woman were found laying on the ground in the parking lot, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified the employee as Barbara Phillips, 30, and 27-year-old Fabian Young. Both are undergoing autopsies on Tuesday.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police evidence technicians recovered a semi-automatic handgun nearby. The man and woman have been identified by police, but their names are not being released until the families can be notified, Hodgkins police said on Facebook.

A witness also gave a full recounting to investigators. The shooting is being investigated as a murder-suicide, police said.
