OAK LAWN, IL — Cire Raquel Robinson liked to play with her dolls. She enjoyed Roblox and board games, making Tic Tok videos, drawing, watching scary movies and Anime. She had a passion to be an animation artist. Most of all she loved being with her family. Although her 12 years were short, Cire made an impression on everyone she met.

The Oak Lawn girl was killed Jan. 20 in a car accident by an alleged drunken driver out on bond, police said, leaving her family and her school community shattered. Cire was born Oct. 27, 2008. She attended Columbus-Manor Elementary School through the fifth grade. Cire entered Simmons Middle School’s sixth-grade class in the fall, although much of that time was spent in remote learning due to the pandemic.

Ridgeland School District 122 Superintendent Joe Matise said Cire’s positive presence in the halls of Simmons Middle School would be greatly missed.

“There’s now a void in our school district family that cannot be filled,” Matise said. “I’ve been receiving many emails about the ways we can support Cire’s family.”

Matise has been in contact with the Robinson family and dropped off gift cards earlier this week at the family’s home for attire to wear to Cire’s funeral. He described Cire’s father, Cyrus, who was also seriously injured in the accident, as a hands-on dad who picked up his daughters from school every day.

“Her mom (Teresa) is being extremely strong,” Matise said. “She’s pushing through it, keeping busy.”

“As I learn of things they may need, I will be sharing that with the community,” the superintendent added.

In public comments made to the Oak Lawn Village Board at Tuesday’s meeting, Matise said the school district shared in the public outrage over Cire’s tragic death. Mayor Sandra Bury has called for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to resign.

Cire leaves her parents, Cyrus and Teresa Robinson, her siblings Cyrus Jr., Tia, Heaven, and Cree; and paternal grandparents, Johnnie Mae and L.C. Robinson and maternal grandparents Veronica Scott and Raymond Jackson. She was a fun-loving aunt, niece and friend to many, according to Cire’s obituary.

“Cire Raquel Robinson, a beautiful 12-year-old taken too soon to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 20, 2021,” her obituary read.

Visitation for Cire will take place for 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn (103rd Street and Cicero Avenue). The funeral home is observing CDC and COVID-19 guidelines. Twenty-five guests will be allowed into the funeral home at one time, and face masks are required.

A funeral will follow Monday, Feb. 1. A committal service will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery, 11333 S Central Ave, Oak Lawn (111th Street and Central Avenue). Per CDC guidelines, only 25 people will be allowed to the service at the cemetery. More information about the arrangements is available in Cire’s obituary.
