Chinese Delegation Returns to Orland School District 135

ORLAND PARK, IL – Students in Orland District 135 received some special visitors earlier this week.

As part of the 21st Century Institute's professional public affairs exchange program, the Village of Orland Park welcomed Chinese delegates—and they made Orland School District 135 a stop during their visit.

On Wednesday, Sept. 14 the delegates visited Liberty School (8801 W. 151st St) to learn about the public school system in the United States. During their 2.5-hour visit, the delegates were able to observe, interact with students and ask questions.

The group sat in on each of the following subjects for 20 minutes: Art, social studies, math, technology, writing and reading. In art class, the delegates had an opportunity to create their own “Minion selfie” with students. Social studies included an archaeological dig, where students explored a colonial village and explained to the delegates what different items were used for in that time. Both math and technology showcased the different ways students use their iPads to enhance the learning environment. The delegates also sat in on reading and math lessons.

After exploring the classroom, the delegates were seated in a conference room with building and District-level administrators to ask any questions they had regarding the school system. This opportunity also allows for administrators to get to know the culture of the school system in China, and to learn more about the delegates.
