Elderly Orland Park Man Cited in Crash that Killed Teen Pedestrian

Police conclude months-long investigation into crash that killed teen as he was mowing the lawn.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A 74-year-old Orland Park man has been charged with several traffic violations months after a crash that killed a 17-year-old boy.

Ibrahim N. Ziad was charged Dec. 1 with violations including driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to exercise due care to avoid striking a pedestrian.

On June 17, Ziad was driving a 2009 Mercedes Benz on Silo Ridge North when he reportedly veered off the roadway and struck David Dolitsky, who was on foot mowing the lawn. The driver also hit a brick mailbox, police said in an earlier release.

Orland Park police investigated the accident and consulted with the Cook County State's Attorney, police said in a release Monday.

Ziad was released on his signature and was issued a court date of Dec. 21 at 1:30 p.m., room 209 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
