Felon Arrested With Gun, Dozens Of Stolen Catalytic Converters: PD

A 30-year-old Homewood man led police on a brief foot chase before being arrested Thursday afternoon, police said Friday.

ORLAND PARK, IL ? A convicted felon was arrested and faces several felony charges after leading police on a foot chase in Orland Park Thursday, police said Friday.

Just after 3 p.m. Thursday, Orland Park Police Officers on patrol of the parking lot at 288 Orland Square Drive located an unoccupied vehicle with a paper, temporary dealer permit. While looking for the vehicle?s identification number through the windshield of the vehicle, police spotted a black handgun with an extended magazine on the driver?s side floorboard.

Police then saw a man, later identified as Donzel Jenkins, 30, of Homewood, go to the car and open the door. Police called to Jenkins, who then took off on foot, police said. He was caught and taken into custody.

A search of Jenkins? vehicle led to the recovery of the previously observed Glock handgun. Officers also recovered 29 catalytic converters, two reciprocating saws and a drill. Officers recovered approximately 7.6 pounds of cannabis, along with over $10,000 of United States Currency.

Jenkins was charged with felonies of armed violence, possession of cannabis with intent to distribute, possession of stolen motor vehicle parts, and possession of cannabis.

Further investigation revealed a current active parole status for Jenkins, who is also a convicted felon. The Orland Park Police Department will continue to work with other police departments in an effort to identify the origins of the recovered catalytic converters.

Jenkins appeared at the Bridgeview Courthouse Friday and was issued a $250,000D bond, and a no-bond parole hold for parole violation.
