Fireplace Causes Wall Fire Christmas Night in Orland Park

Fire reported in 14100 block of Michael Drive.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland firefighters were called to the 14100 block of Michael Drive in Orland Park on Christmas night for a problem with a fireplace. Firefighters arrived within three minutes of receiving a 9-1-1 call from the resident just after 8:30 p.m., according to a statement from the fire district.

The walls, chimney, and ceiling were opened to expose the hidden fire and extinguish it in about 10 minutes, according to the Orland Fire Protection District. The fireplace in the home is located in the wall between the home and the garage.

Fire damage was limited to the inside of the frame chimney and some adjacent openings. The residents were home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.

Orland Fire was assisted by Palos Fire and several other neighboring departments covered the Orland stations during the home fire response. The official cause of the fire is being investigated.
