Flooding Causes Road Closures Across South Suburbs

ORLAND PARK, IL — Heavy rainfall that hit the area this week is causing problems with roadways this morning. Thursday's rain is contributing to flooding that is prompting officials to close roads across the south suburbs.

A flash flood warning is in effect for the area until 5 p.m. as waves of moderate to locally heavy rainfall are expected, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. Showers and thunderstorms may produce an inch to an inch and a half of rain in some areas, forecasters said. With the ground already saturated from rain earlier this week, more rain, they said, could cause flash floods.

• 135th St. IL 43 to Ridgeland Ave. near Orland Park in Cook County is closed due to flooding.
• 43rd St. Will-Cook Rd to IL 7 in Orland Park in Cook County is closed due to flooding.
• Governors Highway 216th Street to US 30 in Matteson in Cook County is closed due to flooding.
• IL 7 (Southwest Hwy) 143rd St. to 131st St. in Orland Park in Cook County is closed due to flooding.
• US 30 Highland Park Drive to Washington St. in New Lenox in Will County is closed due to flooding.
• IL 53 Park Blvd to IL 56 near Glenn Ellyn in DuPage County is closed due to flooding.
• IL 58 US 45 to East River Rd in Des Plaines in Cook County is closed due to flooding
