Metra Parking Lot Shooting: Man Arrested By Orland Police

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Orland Park Police Department has arrested a man in connection with the May 22 shooting that occurred at the 143rd Street Metra stop, according to police.

Around 5:30 p.m. on May 22, officers responded to reports of gunfire at 9750 Crescent Park Circle. When they arrived at the site, police said nobody had been struck by a bullet, but several glass windows had been shattered. Police said 22-year-old Jacari C. Garrett-McNutt, of Chicago, fled the scene in a silver Hyundai Elantra, and that the gunshots were fired from the same car.

Cook County evidence technicians said that this incident was targeted and isolated.

On May 23, Orland's detectives were able to trace the license plate of the car, and found it parked and unoccupied in the area of the 4600 block of South Ellis Ave., Chicago. According to police, the car was towed back to the Orland Park Police Department, where it was processed by Cook County evidence technicians.

Investigations eventually led to the June 4 discovery of Garrett-McNutt's location — a residence located within the 6400 block of South Wolcott Ave., Chicago. Police said he was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Orland Park Police Station.

On Sunday, Garrett-McNutt was taken to Central Bond Court at 2600 S. California Ave. where he was issued a $250,000 bond. He was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm-occupied building, according to police. Garrett-McNutt has a return date scheduled for Tuesday at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
