Orland Park Mayor's Golf Outing to Benefit Orland Park Nature Center

ORLAND PARK, IL - The Village of Orland Park's 2016 Mayor's Cup Golf Outing to benefit Open Lands of Orland Park is set for Tuesday, September 13 at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park.

Registration is now open and limited to 144 golfers on a first come, first serve basis. The all-day outing includes a continental breakfast/check-in at 8:30 a.m. and a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on the north course. The day also includes an on-course barbecue lunch featuring craft beers, a half-hour cocktail reception and a 4 p.m. dinner.

"Orland Park's golf outing has benefited the Open Lands Funds for the last several years," said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "People enjoy a beautiful day on the golf course and help preserve open space in the village at the same time."

Golf and dinner tickets are $130 per person and include 18 holes of golf, one-half cart, a continental breakfast, lunch on the course, cocktails, and dinner. Golf only tickets are $100 per person and include 18 holes of golf, ½ cart, continental breakfast, and lunch on the course. Dinner only tickets are $50 and include cocktails and dinner.

Amenities at the 2016 Mayor's Cup include a chance to win cash or prizes, including a two-night Vegas stay package (hotel and airfare), and a $40 Super Card which includes all SMT on course games and a scratch card. The on-course games include golf ball launcher, cool cash, guess your distance, and speed hole.

Sponsorships are available, including a $200 hole sponsor, a $300 continental breakfast sponsor, a $500 cocktail hour sponsor, a $1,000 lunch on the course sponsor, and an exclusive $1,000 golf cart sponsor.

Proceeds from this year's outing will benefit the Open Lands Commission's planned nature center across from McGinnis Slough at 139th St. and LaGrange Road. The commission is planning to transform a former 3 ½-acre nursery into an indoor and outdoor learning center with bird watching stations, butterfly gardens, and bike access.

"The Open Lands Commission has accomplished a lot since it was created and they play an important part in preserving open spaces in the village," McLaughlin said. "The nature center will be a great addition to Orland Park, giving the community hands on educational resources about native wild life and the wetlands."

Mayor McLaughlin created the village's Open Lands Commission in 1995, as a way for the village to purchase and preserve open spaces of land with unique heritage or significance to the natural eco-system. The commission has purchased and protected more than 276 acres of land, equivalent to almost 300 football fields of preserved open space.
