Orland Park Reports 96 Coronavirus Cases Last Week

The Cook County Department of Public Health shows the village's slight up-tick in case positivity.

ORLAND PARK, IL — As vaccinations pick up around Illinois, restrictions are beginning to subside. Many people, whether they receive the vaccine or not, are trying to go back to life pre-COVID-19. While light at the end of the tunnel is near, the Cook County Department of Public Health's recent slate of coronavirus data shows cases are rising here in Orland Park.

As of Wednesday, Johns Hopkins University and Medicine reports there have been a total of 154,602,977 COVID-19 cases around the world— surpassing the 141,684,613 cases reported on Apr. 19. Over 32 million of those cases are here in the United States.

Here in Orland Park, cases are currently increasing. The CCDPH reports that as of May 1, the village has had a total of 6,289 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The department states 96 cases in the town were confirmed between April 24 and May 1. During this time frame, cases have increased by nearly two percent, according to the department.

Across suburban Cook County, the positivity rate and the rate of hospital admissions has changed. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported that there are 1,564 people across Illinois in the hospital for COVID-19 or are under investigation. This is about nine percent of Illinois' hospital beds that are being used. As of Tuesday, 496 of these patients are in the ICU.

Illinois occupies a total of 5,716 ventilators and 1,450 ventilators are in use as of Tuesday. The IDPH reports 249 ventilators are being used by COVID-19 patients, as of Wednesday. IDPH said 75 percent of the state's ventilators are available.

The CCDPH reports 1,002,263 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Cook County residents, excluding Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie, and Stickney Township. The department states 624,248 residents have been fully vaccinated. About 44 percent of Cook County residents have been fully vaccinated.
