Orland Park Woman Wins $300,000 Illinois Lottery Prize

Plans to share windfall with her best friend—her father.

ORLAND PARK, IL — It didn't take Loretta Schiera long to decide what she would do with her $300,000 lottery prize.

“I grew up helping my dad with everything from plumbing to fixing cars. He is my best friend, and I plan to share this prize with him,” Schiera said when she presented her winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Springfield. The lucky Orland Park resident won a $300,000 jackpot prize when her Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 01 - 03 - 20 - 39 - 41 – in the Wednesday, May 18, Lucky Day Lotto evening drawing.

As part of their routine together, Schiera gave the ticket to her dad for him to check it.

“After the drawing he called me and said, ‘You have to come over right now! You just won the lottery!’” Schiera immediately went to her dad’s house and when she read the winning Lucky Day Lotto numbers in the newspaper, she was speechless. When asked what advice she would give to other lottery players she said, “If you win, share it with someone you love.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Villa Park BP, 350 East North Avenue, in Villa Park. The retailer received a $3,000 bonus, equal to one percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. More than 14,000 players won prizes ranging from $1 to $200 in this Lucky Day Lotto drawing. Lucky Day Lotto drawings are twice a day, seven days a week.
