"The police department bike ride is a great event — it's a beautiful ride through Orland Park and some of the forest preserves and it's for a great cause," said Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau.
According to the release, the 15-mile course will travel through Orland Park, then connect with the Tinley Creek Forest Preserve Trails. A water stop will be held halfway through the ride, and refreshments along with a complimentary breakfast buffet, soft drinks and coffee will be available at Fattie's Pub after the ride.

"Each summer, many people look forward to this event and it seems to be a community favorite," Police Chief Joe Mitchell said.
"It's not a race, rather a leisurely paced bike ride and everyone remains together as a group," Mitchell said, adding that all participants are expected to wear bicycle helmets.
Online registration for the ride is encouraged by the village. Those returning forms in person must return them to the Orland Park Police Department, located at 15100 S. Ravinia Ave., or to the Village Hall at 14700 S. Ravinia Ave., by Friday, August 27.
According to the village, cash, checks and credit cards may be used to register, with checks made payable to Special Olympics Illinois.
Those interested in getting involved can register online. For more information about the event, the village said to contact Ron Kus at rkus@orlandpark.org or leave a message at 708/364-4998.
