ORLAND PARK, IL — Ease off of that lead foot in Orland Park — a red light camera is coming to the intersection of 159th and 94th Avenue.

The move comes not to generate money, Mayor Keith Pekau said, but to ensure public safety.

According to the village's data, the intersection has been the top crash site in Orland Park since 2015.

In Orland, a driver can be ticketed for turning on a red light if a pedestrian is present during the violation or if driver makes no attempt to slow down before making the right turn.

The public will be notified before the camera monitoring will go into effect, and all tickets in the first 30 days of operation will be warnings only.

The camera is the third in the village. Two were installed in 2008: one at 151st Street and Harlem Avenue and at 159th Street and Harlem Avenue. A camera at 151st Street and LaGrange Road was removed in 2014 during construction.

Each camera is estimated to generate about $100,000 in revenue for the village.
