Orland Park, Illinois – A woman tried to slip a shoplifting rap by pinning the blame on her 12-year-old daughter, police said.
The Orland Park cops didn't buy 35-year-old Amani Ibrahim's story and took her into custody. They boosted the charge to a felony when they found out she had six prior theft convictions, police said.
A security guard for the Sephora in the Orland Square Mall spotted Ibrahim snatching eyeliner and other products and slipping them into a shopping bag she had brought with her into the store, police said. Ibrahim also reportedly grabbed more merchandise and handed it to her 12-year-old daughter. The daughter put those products in the bag as well, police said.
When Ibrahim, her daughter and her two other children left the store, the guard stopped them, police said.
A police officer sent to the Sephora reportedly spoke to Ibrahim and was told how it was all the daughter's fault.
"Amani advised me it was her daughter ... who committed the retail theft and not her," the officer said, according to police.
After Ibrahim was taken into custody, her children were driven to the Orland Park Police Department. One of her cousins came to pick them up, police said.
