2 Escape Shorewood House Fire
About 30 firefighters from Troy, Plainfield, Channahon, Minooka and Lockport helped put out Thursday afternoon's fire in Shorewood.

SHOREWOOD, IL — Two people who live in the 300 block of Shorewood's Shady Lane were able to escape to safety as their garage went up in flames Thursday afternoon. About 30 firefighters from Troy Township, Channahon, Minooka, Lockport and Plainfield responded to the structure fire.
The homeowners called 911 to report their house caught on fire, Troy Fire Department Capt. Kyle Smicker told Patch at the scene.
"We found fire in the garage area. Companies did everything they needed to do, extinguished the fire, the two victims of the house made it out before we got here," Smicker told Patch. "At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation."

Besides significant damage to the house's garage, at least one car parked in the driveway was scorched by the fire.
Shorewood's Police Department also sent several officers to the call. Officers were keeping traffic away from the street while several fire engines occupied Shady Lane and were running hoses. The fire broke out in a neighborhood that's a few blocks north of Shorewood's Public Library.
