Alden Courts Of Shorewood Has 1st Coronavirus Death

The Illinois Department of Public Health now reports Alden Courts of Shorewood has had multiple coronavirus cases.

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Illinois Department of Public Health now reports that a Shorewood nursing care facility has had multiple cases involving the new coronavirus, including a death, at its care center at 700 W. Black Road.

Alden Courts of Shorewood reports four coronavirus cases, including the one resident fatality, officials said.

Alden Courts of Shorewood has a short message on its website informing people that it has taken numerous health and safety precautions amid the outbreak. The website includes no mention that Alden Courts has had multiple residents diagnosed with the coronavirus, however.

A week ago, Alden Courts of Shorewood did not appear on the state's public health listing of all Will County nursing care centers that had coronavirus cases among its residents and patients.

On Thursday, Alden Courts posted the following information on its website: "Ensuring residents are cared for in a safe and healthy environment is our greatest concern. Our facility has been and is following recommendations of the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention], state and local health departments with regards to COVID-19. We will continue to stay up to date with their recommendations and will continue to follow their guidance."

Alden Courts of Shorewood also announced it had instituted the following protocols: regular communication with residents and patients, daily symptom monitoring, canceling all large group and community events, eliminating communal dining, restricting nonessential trips out of the facility and restricting nonessential visitation and instead encouraging virtual visits.

Overall, state health data shows at least 44 confirmed coronavirus cases across the village of Shorewood, which has a population of 17,400.
