Aldi Locating Near Shorewood Home Depot, But Not Yet

SHOREWOOD, IL - Over the past few weeks, construction crews have been going to town erecting a new building along Black Road near The Home Depot in Shorewood. And last November, Shorewood village officials were thrilled to learn the Aldi grocery store chain planned to construct a new store near The Home Depot. As it turns out, however, the new building currently under construction is not for the Aldi.

Shorewood village consultant Rod Tonelli told Patch on Monday that the building under construction will be an early childhood learning facility called The Learning Experience.

If the project remains on schedule, Tonelli believes The Learning Experience could open later this year.

As for Aldi, Tonelli said the company plans to break ground on a different commercial lot near The Home Depot property, but the Aldi groundbreaking probably won't occur until "later in 2019."

Under that scenario, the future Aldi in Shorewood might open for customers in the middle part of 2020, he added.
