Woman, 66, Killed In Black Road Crash

The Shorewood woman was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning.

SHOREWOOD, IL —A 66-year-old Shorewood woman was killed when she was hit by a vehicle Thursday morning on eastbound Black Road west of Edgebrook Drive.

Joni D. Hilger, who was a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at 1 p.m., the Will County Coroner's Office said.

Shorewood police, Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff's office were on the scene investigating the crash and taking measurement. Much of Black Road was closed from River Road to Route 59.

Cleanup of the crash required a traffic detour for several hours. Black Road was reopened to traffic by Thursday evening.

Shorewood Police Chief Aaron Klima told Patch that the driver who struck Hilger immediately stopped. The chief said that no charges have been filed against the driver. The driver was not injured, the chief added.

Klima said the results of the Will County Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction investigation may take several weeks before he knows what happened. Klima said it has been several years since the village of Shorewood last had a pedestrian fatality.

The suggested alternate routes were Jefferson Street or Theodore Street, police said.
