SHOREWOOD, IL — In late September 2018, the world as we knew it changed in Shorewood when the new Chicken-N-Spice with a drive-thru window opened for business. As readers may remember, the Chicken-N-Spice project fell several months behind schedule because of problems with the parking lot construction. Now, the opening of the new Casa Maya restaurant in the same Anderson's Crossroads Plaza is also behind schedule.

When Patch first reported the popular sit-down Mexican restaurant was relocating from its original location at the Park Place Plaza to the corner of Route 59 and U.S. 52, Casa Maya employees told Patch they hoped to be open before May.

At the end of June, Casa Maya was forced to vacate its long-time restaurant at the Park Place Plaza, but, with construction of the new restaurant still not done, Casa Maya had nowhere to go.

"We are sorry for the delay in our grand opening. Unfortunately we will not be able to open as scheduled this month. There has been some issues that are out of our control, but we are finally in the finishing stages," Casa Maya announced on Facebook.

"We refuse to cut corners until our restaurant is a place where your experience is the absolute best it can be. Thank you everyone for your patience, understanding and for your continued support! Please continue following our page to get official updates."

Casa Maya has posted no updates since Oct. 5.

Over the past month, several loyal customers have continued to post comments on the Casa Maya Facebook page. They, too, are wondering when they'll be able to visit the new sit-down Mexican restaurant at Anderson's Plaza.

Here were some of their comments:

  • "So sorry you are experiencing such a difficult time. A shame people aren't more cooperative. We look forward to the opening."
  • "New opening date? I keep looking every Friday to see if you guys are open yet. I hope everything is okay."
  • "Are you getting any closer to opening?... we miss you!!
  • "Ugh, you tell us what we need to do so there are no more delays....we will get on the contractor's, the village, etc. ... we are needing your food. I may have lost weight."
