100-Year-Old WWII Veteran Gets Drive-By Birthday Parade

Don Breen, a WWII veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday with a drive-by parade from dozens of local organizations.

SHOREWOOD, IL —Don Breen, a WWII veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday with a drive-by parade yesterday at the Timbers of Shorewood. More than a dozen organizations came out to celebrate a very special centenarian. Organizations included:

  • Shorewood Police Department
  • Troy Fire Department
  • American Legion
  • Operation Welcome You Home
  • Illinois State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant
  • Shorewood Library
  • Boy Scouts
  • Girl Scouts
  • Daley’s Ambulance
  • Home Instead Caregiving Services
  • Peace Hospice
  • Freedom Ambulance
  • Big Frog Custom T-shirts
  • Signs by Tomorrow
  • Vocalist Kym Frankovelgia performed live

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents whose needs may change are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate and compassionate care. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay.
