Forest Preserve Hosts St. PAW-trick's Day Dog Event And Webinars

Dress your dog in green and let it romp at a Joliet dog park or tune in to two St. Patrick's Day-theme themed Zoom webinars.

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and you’re in luck because the Forest Preserve District of Will County has three upcoming programs that will enhance this special day.

Dress your dog in green and let it romp at a Forest Preserve dog park to search for a pot of gold. Or tune in to two St. Patrick’s Day-themed Zoom webinars from the comfort of your home.

Registration is required for all three programs. Sign up via the Event Calendar.

Here are the programs:

St. PAW-trick’s Day: 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 13, Lower Rock Run Dog Park, McClintock Road Access, Joliet. Free, all ages.

Celebrate the luck of the Irish with your four-legged pal. The Forest Preserve will host a St. Patrick’s Day-themed party to celebrate how lucky we are to spend time with our favorite furry friends. Which dogs will discover a pot of gold? Bring your dog in their best green attire
for the pawfect party picture! Registration and valid 2021 dog park permits are required. Permits will be available for purchase during the program or they can be purchased online ahead of time. Each human guest must register in advance. Register online or call 815.727.8700. All participants are required to wear a mask.

Irish in the Industries: noon, Sunday, March 14, Zoom webinar. Free, ages 16 or older.

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, let’s celebrate by learning about the hardworking Irish who drove our industries. In this Zoom webinar, an interpretive naturalist will share the stories of the Irish who helped develop this area by working in the industries of canal building and steel manufacturing. We’ll discuss why the Irish settled here and their role in the area’s economy. Register online and the Zoom link will be emailed to you.

St. Pat’s Charming Snakes: 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, Zoom webinar. Free, ages 8 or older.

The legend is that St. Patrick charmed the snakes out of Ireland. Lucky for us, we have plenty of charming snakes here in Will County! Learn about our local snakes, ranging from big northern water snakes to colorful smooth green snakes to small midland brown snakes. Be amazed by
their special adaptations and appreciate why they are so important to our ecosystem. Register online and the Zoom link will be emailed to you.
