Frosty Tips In Shorewood Not Opening This Year

SHOREWOOD, IL —For decades, people in the Shorewood area have stood in line at the Frosty Tips window waiting to order an ice cream cone, a shake or a malt, but not this year.

At a time when many of the Joliet area's ice cream stands are now open for business, Frosty Tips, 700 West Jefferson St., is not one of them. In various social media community forums, Shorewood residents have been asking one another about the status Frosty Tips.

In mid-May, Frosty Tips posted the following statement on its Facebook page: "Today we have made the very difficult decision to remain closed for the season until May 2021. As this was not an easy decision we felt it was the right one. Our employees safety as well as our customers has always been a priority for us.

"As we have monitored our fellow competitors and current restrictions we have not seen a clear, safe path to opening and serving the community safely. Serving the Shorewood community, something we have been very passionate about for over 40 years will continue next season. We hope all our incredible patrons understand and continue to support us once again next season. Please stay safe and healthy and we will see you next Spring!"

The shutdown of Frosty Tips likely means more business for the Dairy Queen restaurant on the other side of Shorewood's West Jefferson Street.
