Morris Man Attacks Shorewood Cop: Complaint
Will County Judge Dave Carlson issued a significant bail for the 55-year-old Morris man last week.

SHOREWOOD, IL — Authorities are trying to locate a 55-year-old Morris man who faces four counts of committing aggravated battery last month in the parking lot of the Shorewood Police Station. The Will County State's Attorney's Office filed formal charges against Pablino Valencia Chavez, who lives in the 700 block of Douglas Street. Will County Judge Dave Carlson set Chavez's bail at $250,000 and issued a bench warrant for the Morris resident's detention.
Chavez was briefly detained overnight at the Will County Jail on Oct. 13, jail records show. Last week's filing of four felony aggravated battery charges resulted from a criminal investigation conducted by Trooper Kevin Wehling of the Illinois State Police.
The complaint accuses Chavez of striking Shorewood Police Officer Paul Retzke "about the head," and "about the body" on multiple instances Oct 13 "while Paul Retzke was on or about a public property ... namely the parking lot of the Shorewood Police Department located at 903 West Jefferson Street."
