New Treatment for Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis often occurs in the knees and shoulders and can limit a person’s mobility, activities and lifestyle, in addition to being a painful condition. Comprehensive Pain & Wellness now has available a non-surgical treatment for this common condition.

“We are now offering visco supplemental Injections, a lubrication joint fluid therapy as an option for patients with osteoarthritis (OA) in their knees or shoulders,” said Dr. Kelly Lesemann, owner of Comprehensive Pain & Wellness. “Visco supplementation injections can help improve mobility and reduce pain caused by osteoarthritis.”

This non-surgical therapy, sometimes referred to as lubricant joint fluid therapy, contains hyaluronic acid, which acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in a healthy joint. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance and is found in joint cartilage and in the fluid that fills the joints. Often individuals who have osteoarthritis have less hyaluronic acid in their joints causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. The visco supplemental injections replaces the hyaluronic acid in the joint and may help reduce symptoms by increasing the lubrication and shock-absorbing properties.

The treatment usually involves three injections, and more injections may be needed depending on the results. The procedure may be covered by Medicare and insurance and the injections are given by our medical staff.
