Runners who could not make it to the Chicago Marathon are invited to perhaps the next best thing: Manhattan, IL.
Officials at St. Joseph Catholic School, located at 275. W. North Street, in Manhattan, say their 4th Annual Mission Run 5K is worth the drive to participate.

Manhattan, population of about 7,000, is located south of Joliet and east of Elwood along U.S. 52. Though the Blues Brothers aren’t registered to run, the school is hoping for a miraculous turn out.
“The Mission Run 5K is a (USATF) certified course that runs through the scenic streets of Manhattan as well as through limestone paths,” said Principal Colleen Domke, who has run in two full marathons and eight half marathons, as well as numerous 5K races. “Fall colors are in full bloom and on a nice day it is a spectacular run.”

Domke also said that the $25 early registration is a bargain for the swag bag of goodies provided.
“All pre-paid runners receive a t-shirt and medals are given to first, second, third place male and female winners in each 10-year age category,” Domke said.
Children are also invited to participate in an obstacle course, called the Charger Dash, for ages five to 12, which costs $10. Youths can opt to participate in both the 5K and the Charger Dash for $30.
St. Joseph School is celebrating its 90th anniversary this month.
“Fall in a community like Manhattan is a time of celebration,” said David Ripp, the school’s marketing director and parent. ”St. Joseph promotes a healthy mind, body and spirit to our students, families, and the local community we serve. Bringing area runners to Manhattan to participate is part of that
mission.”
