Shorewood's Good Eats Tavern Opens At Old Casa Maya Spot

SHOREWOOD, IL —In recent days, Good Eats On The Go Tavern opened in Shorewood, filling the vacancy created when Casa Maya left for its new building at the Anderson's Crossing on Route 59. On Tuesday, Joliet Patch's editor caught up with the new Shorewood restaurant owner, Javier Lomeli, inside his new business.

What's Lomeli's background? Lomeli lives in Lockport, and he is best known for having a food truck that he operated in Channahon. To generate publicity, he has parked his food truck along Route 52 in front of the Park Place Plaza where he just opened his business. "We are open now," he stressed.

What are your food specials? For the time being, Good Eats On The Go is serving four different types of tacos: steak, skirt steak, grilled chicken and Al pastor, which is a marinated pork taco. But these are not ordinary tacos, Lomeli stressed.

What about drink specials? For now, Good Eats On The Go is focusing on two different margaritas, both on the rocks. One is the blue margarita and the other is the house margarita. During Tuesday's interview, an Old Style beer truck pulled up to drop off a delivery of beer. Lomeli said he operates a full service beer with lots of domestic beers available.

What's the business hours? Now that Gov. JB Pritzker has allowed Joliet area bars and restaurants to have indoor guests, Good Eats On The Go Tavern is staying open 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lomeli is staying closed Monday.

Is Good Eats A Bar Or A Restaurant? Good Eats owner told Patch: "I want people to know that I'm more of a tavern, but I have the best tacos in town. I'm looking forward to people in the Shorewood area coming to try our tacos." Lomeli also said in the coming weeks he will be expanding his menu to offer several Smash Burgers to his menu.

What else should people know about Good Eats On The Go? People familiar with Lomeli's Good Eats On The Go food truck know Lomeli for his "signature green sauce." He said he has several different pairings for his tacos to bring out the best flavor in his meals.

Lomeli also wants to spread the word to Will County area microbreweries that he can partner with them to bring his Good Eats On The Go taco truck to their parking lot. Before the pandemic hit, he said his food truck was a regular presence outside Channahon's River Hawk Brewery on Route 6.
