Surveillance Cameras Coming to Shorewood Village Hall, Police Station

Police Chief Aaron Klima recommended the purchase to the board after instances of vandalism at both places.

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Village of Shorewood approved the purchase of indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras for the Village Hall and police station, according to Shorewood Deputy Clerk Toni Dulny.

Village Hall will have 11 indoor cameras, while the police station will have six indoor cameras and nine outdoor cameras.

In a memo filed with the Village, Shorewood Police Chief Aaron Klima said Village Hall has fallen victim to some “disgusting vandalism” in the bathrooms and the police department has experienced vandalism, damage to police vehicles, as well as batteries and domestic disturbances in the parking lot.

“The use of surveillance at the police department not only helps us deter and possibly identify perpetrators, but we intend to advertise the Police Department (sic) property as a ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ for court ordered child custody exchanges, as well as internet sale transactions,” Klima wrote in the memo.

After a recommendation from Klima, the Board approved the bid from HTS, which will cost the village $31,433.80.
